Lawyers helping clients overcome the impact of trade regulations

HFW's international trade regulation practice advises clients on, and resolves issues related to, the impact of regulations mandated by the European Union and World Trade Organization. Our primary objective is to help clients overcome commercial obstacles related to market access and import and export-related difficulties that result from government intervention and market regulations worldwide

What we do in WTO

We have advised and represented clients in WTO proceedings at various stages of WTO disputes (consultations, Panel proceedings, Appellate Body proceedings and compliance proceedings). Such assistance includes legal research, drafting and reviewing submissions and oral statements, and participation in hearings.

In addition, we regularly advise governments of WTO members on the feasibility of initiating WTO procedures and provide legal assistance with respect to the impact and the implications of WTO findings.

Our experience in WTO

We provide below some examples of our work in this area:
  • Representing the government of India in the historic EC – Bed Linen WTO proceedings (before the Panel, Appellate Body and Compliance proceedings) where the question of "zeroing" was settled.
  • Representation of the Government of South Korea and the Government of Japan in the Panel and Appellate Body proceedings in the Airbus/Boeing EU-US dispute before the WTO’s Dispute Settlement Body.
  • Successfully advising the Government of India in Dispute Settlement Consultations with the EU against the continuing imposition of EU anti-dumping duties against hot-rolled coils from India.
