About Ryan
Ryan is an Associate in HFW’s Sanctions & Export Controls and Shipping Litigation teams, based in London.
Ryan’s sanctions work involves advising clients across a variety of sectors including aerospace, commodities, finance, insurance, shipping, and telecommunications on the application of EU, UK, and UN sanctions. He also helps clients with compliance with US sanctions laws. In particular, Ryan’s sanctions work covers due diligence, compliance, contractual drafting, reporting obligations, licensing, and applications for de-designations.
He also supports clients with technical issues involving export controls, customs, and broader regulatory compliance.
In addition, Ryan acts for clients on complex, multi-jurisdictional dry and wet shipping disputes, including marine insurance and admiralty and crisis management. He has represented owners, charterers, salvors, and insurers in litigation and arbitration arising from shipbuilding, collisions, salvage operations, fires, machinery breakdowns, and vessel detentions.
As part of his training, Ryan spent six months in HFW’s London Insurance & Reinsurance team, where he worked on a variety of insurance and reinsurance disputes, including offshore construction and marine insurance. Ryan also completed a six-month international secondment in HFW’s Dubai office, where he worked on aviation disputes and regulatory issues.
Ryan is a qualified lawyer in England and Wales.
