About Simon
Simon has significant expertise in shipping and maritime law, offshore energy and international trade.
He advises on a wide range of shipping and maritime cases, both wet and dry, including issues relating to marine casualties, charterparties, shipbuilding contracts, marine insurance, bills of lading and cargo damage, as well as commodity trade issues. He regularly represents domestic and international shipping and trading interests in litigation, arbitration, mediation and commercial negotiations.
Simon’s energy experience includes issues in the construction, chartering, operation, insurance and decommissioning of drilling rigs, FPSOs and FSOs, FSRUs, other surface and subsea installations, and a wide range of offshore support vessels. Simon is familiar with the oil & gas industry, including the LNG sector. He deals with incidents offshore, and regulatory issues including pollution/environmental, licensing and safety.
Simon has considerable international experience, having advised on projects in Australia, New Zealand, South-East Asia, the North Sea, Brazil and West Africa. He acts in cross-border litigation and international arbitrations, including several large and technical disputes concerning FPSOs and drilling rigs. He also has significant expertise in OSV chartering. Simon has recently advised on offshore decommissioning in Australia and associated regulatory issues.
Simon is ranked by Chambers and by Legal500 as a “Leading Individual”. He is described as having “approachability, depth of knowledge”, “demonstrates a deep perception of the issues”, and “never fails to provide excellent legal advice and has saved the day on a number of occasions”.
Simon is qualified in Australia and England, and worked for several years in HFW’s London office. He was elected Partner of the firm in 2018.
