About Hugo
Hugo is an Associate in HFW’s BVI office, specialising in complex, high value and cross-border commercial disputes.
Prior to joining HFW’s BVI office, Hugo was an associate in the London office of an international law firm.
He has worked on a wide range of disputes throughout his career, spanning from civil fraud claims to contentious insolvency, and including financial services disputes, professional negligence claims, contractual disputes, banking litigation, shareholder disputes, and securities litigation, amongst others.
Hugo has experience working on a broad range of disputes litigated in the High Court and the Court of Appeal, including both trials and interlocutory relief.
His clients include major domestic and international companies, individuals, insolvency practitioners, as well as acting for and against groups of claimants.
He is qualified in the British Virgin Islands and in England and Wales. Hugo also speaks Portuguese (native), Spanish (advanced) and French (intermediate).
Recent work includes:
- Acting for the Joint Liquidators of the Feeder Fund in the Three Arrows liquidation. This high-profile liquidation is estimated to involve assets worth US$ billions.
- Acting for the Joint Liquidators of a BVI company, which focused on the speculative trading of contracts for forward freight agreements, in suing one of its foreign directors for various breaches of fiduciary duties. Claim value is in excess of US$13m.
- Advising the Provisional Joint Liquidators of a BVI entity on various insolvency related matters with a view to them properly discharging their duties. This case involves complex cross border issues.
