About Alessio
Alessio Sbraga is a Partner in HFW’s Shipping team in London, and has a contentious and non-contentious practice.
With over 18 years of experience, Alessio practices in international commercial dispute resolution and specialises in maritime environmental compliance.
He services all the main stakeholders across the entire maritime value chain and in respect of all types of commercial contracts in the physical transport chains (upstream, downstream and maritime services), advising on charterparties, bills of lading, sale contracts, MOAs, ship management agreements, fuel supply contracts, offshore contracts and bunker disputes, and handles complex multi-jurisdictional litigation and arbitration.
Alessio is also a leading maritime decarbonisation expert specialising in maritime environmental compliance and due diligence, alternative maritime fuel solutions (including biofuels, LNG, biomethane, methanol and ammonia), emission reduction technologies, sustainable maritime practices, environmental reporting due diligence and greenwashing claims. He advises extensively on GHG emissions regulations including MARPOL (air pollution) and the EU’s Fit for 55 legislation (EU ETS, Fuel EU, RED), including fuel / bunker related issues, and assists with contractual negotiations and strategies with clients to achieve their GHG reduction goals.
He has been part of BIMCO’s sub-committees responsible for drafting time and voyage charter clauses covering IMO2020, EEXI, carbon intensity regulations, the EU ETS, and the FuelEU Maritime clause for Shipman 2024.
Alessio serves as a sustainability ambassador for HFW’s Shipping team, and he speaks fluent Italian.
