HFW consolidates international construction and major projects capability

Leading international law firm Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW) has consolidated its international construction and major projects capability in Australia and Asia with the recent acquisition of senior industry practitioners Amanda Davidson and Carolyn Chudleigh and their team of ten lawyers and support staff to the firm's Sydney office.

Amanda and Carolyn are both industry-leading names, Amanda having previously led construction and project teams at Freehills and Blake Dawson Waldron, and Carolyn as a highly regarded practitioner in Australia's construction and property development sector with Holding Redlich.

Named as one of the top ten practitioners in construction in Australia in recent Asia Pacific Legal 500 publications and having won the 'Best in Construction Award' at the 2014 Euromoney Asia Women in Business Law awards, Amanda advises Australian and international clients on a diverse range of civil, mining resources, building, property and commercial infrastructure projects in Australia, Asia and the Middle East. She works with clients from project inception through tendering and contract preparation, contract administration, ongoing operations and maintenance, to all forms of dispute management and resolution. Amanda also advises on the procurement of privately funded public infrastructure, as well as other government and private sector projects.

Carolyn's practice focuses on the property development and financing aspects of major projects, in particular corporate structuring and land tenure, management and environmental compliance solutions (including zoning and land usage), property taxes and duties, Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) applications, titling and land access arrangements (including transport/rail infrastructure access entitlements). She has acted for developers and owners on a range of developments, including mining and resources, agribusiness and port projects, in-land intermodal and transport hubs, airport development and community and strata schemes, in particular for international investors in Australia. Carolyn also provides property related advice in connection with listed and unlisted property funds, creating structures for investment funds and advising on issues relating to real estate funds management. She has also acted a consultant to Singapore government land authorities in relation to a review of land subdivision and governance regulations.

Nick Longley, head of the firm's Asia-Pacific construction group said: "The experience of Amanda and Carolyn further enhances the capabilities Holman Fenwick Willan are able to offer clients, who appreciate the in-depth sector focused advisory services we provide when handling their matters."

Richard Crump, the firm's Senior Partner commented: "We are delighted to welcome Amanda and Carolyn and their teams to the firm. They join at an exciting time of development for the firm's international construction group, as we continue to invest in the capabilities of the team."

The recruitment comes on the back of significant investment in the firm's construction capabilities over the last 18 months. In 2013, the firm welcomed the market leading ex-Maxwell Winward team of three Partners and seven Associates. The team, led by Partners Max Wieliczko, Michael Sergeant and Robert Blundell, is considered one of the largest specialist practices of its kind in the UK, with extensive experience of both domestic and international projects. This year, Partner Robert Blundell relocated to the firm's Dubai office to support the significant growth opportunities we are seeing throughout the Middle East region, and in August Partner Ian Taylor also joined the Sydney office.
