Peter specialises in international trade, commodities and shipping litigation and arbitration, acting for and advising a number of large trading companies based in Asia and Europe, banks, charterers, operators, owners, P&I Clubs and other insurers.

His trade and commodities experience includes coal (thermal and metallurgical), metals (iron ore, steel and aluminium), oil/petroleum, cotton and soft commodities (grain, rice, sugar, soyabeans and coffee). In shipping, his experience includes a wide range of charterparty disputes (time and voyage charter), bill of lading and S&P disputes.

He is qualified to practice in both English and Hong Kong Courts and has considerable experience of arbitrations in Hong Kong, London and Singapore. He assists clients in managing arbitrations and court proceedings in many other jurisdictions, including Indonesia, the PRC, the Philippines, Australia, India, Pakistan and Taiwan. His arbitration experience includes LMAA, ICC, HKIAC, FOSFA, GAFTA and LCIA arbitrations.

Peter has an LLM Master of Laws degree in shipping and insurance from London University. He has been living and working in Hong Kong since 1997 and has been with HFW since 1998.

Peter is named in both Chambers and Legal 500. Chambers Asia Pacific 2012 recently reported one source as saying "in terms of ability and skill I would recommend Peter". He is considered to be "innovative and reliable, with an excellent grasp of the issues" (Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2011).

Hong Kong

The Hong Kong office established the firm’s presence in Asia, opening over 30 years ago. This is our largest office outside London and includes partners and associates qualified in the UK and Hong Kong, as well as in the legal systems within the region.

The office is a leader in shipping, aviation, commodities, construction, energy, commercial litigation, insurance and corporate matters - regularly winning awards for its work.
