Costas has more than 24 years' experience in dispute resolution with an international element, whether arbitration or commercial litigation. He specialises in International Arbitration and insurance and reinsurance claims arising from reinsurance disputes, professional indemnity/brokers E&O, legacy/run-off, underwriting pools, binding authorities, financial institutions/d&o, property damage and business interruption losses.

He has a wealth of Insurance/Reinsurance and International Arbitration (ICC, LCIA) experience of cross border disputes and transactions in many jurisdictions but primarily acts for clients in the US, Europe and the UAE/GCC and Middle East. He has acted as co-counsel in US actions and advised under US style depositions and/or letters rogatory/Hague Convention letters of request.

He also advises multi-nationals and states in the energy, marine, ports and financial sectors.

He has successfully handled leading cases through the European (ECJ) and English Courts (Court of Appeal / Supreme Court) including Wurttembergische v Home (1999); KUCC & ors v Minet & ors (2003); Allianz v Aigaion (Court of Appeal, 2009), JSC Bank v Ablyasov & ors (2010) Apostolides v Orams (2010) (EU/public law); and AXA v Arab Insurance Group (2015) (a leading case on avoidance/rescission). He is also the lead partner on the ICSID matter, Safa v Hellenic Republic (2016).

Many of Costas's cases are resolved through arbitration and mediation, and are confidential. He has been appointed as an ICC Arbitrator and is a member of the ICC Task Force on Emergency Arbitrators. He co-drafted the ICC UK submission on Emergency Arbitrators.

Costas lectures regularly on key legal, arbitration and insurance/reinsurance issues at leading conferences worldwide.

He is also a CEDR Accredited Mediator.

Costas is recommended as a leading insurance and reinsurance lawyer and as an arbitration expert in Legal 500. He is also named as one of the UK's leading insurance and reinsurance lawyers in the Legal Media Group Guide to the World's Leading Lawyers and in the International Who's Who of Insurance and Reinsurance Lawyers in Who's Who Legal.

Costas is qualified in England and Wales.
