About James

James is a Partner in HFW’s market leading aviation team with over ten years’ experience tackling complex legal issues in the aerospace, transport, logistics, and insurance industries.

He is a dedicated advisor to the airline, general, and business aviation sectors and provides advice across various jurisdictions relating to commercial litigation, regulatory issues, and the drafting/review of commercial contracts. He has also handled some of the region’s largest aviation accidents in recent years for both operators and their insurers.

James is also developing a practice which focuses on emerging technologies and their application to the aerospace sector. This includes actively advising the aviation industry as to the legal implementation of such technologies as well as digital transformation projects. He actively supports the start-up industry and was recently appointed as a mentor to Singapore’s Starburst Accelerator program where he works with up and coming aviation tech start-ups.

James has significant client facing in-house experience gained through corporate secondments at AIG where he held the position of Complex Claims Adjuster in the Aerospace Claims Department as well as at the insurance broker Willis where he worked as a Legal Counsel in the Willis’ Legal Department.

He is currently the co-head of the Asian Business Aviation Association’s (AsBAA) Singapore Chapter and a committee member of the Singapore British Chamber of Commerce Transport, Logistics and Supply Chain Committee. In 2019 he was named one of Singapore’s 20 most influential lawyers under 40 by Singapore Business Review.

James has recently led the HFW aviation team’s efforts in responding to the impact of COVID-19 and was quoted in the New York Times and numerous industry publications discussing the impact it is having on the sector. This has also led to him being invited to speak on the topic by a number of organisations including the Chartered Insurance Institute and the International Union of Aviation Insurers. He was also recently invited to speak at Lloyd’s of London before the Lloyd’s Market Association on the safety risks inadvertently created by passenger compensation regulation EU 261.

James has been mentioned in a testimonial in Legal 500 for Singapore Insurance 2023 “Mert Hifzi and James Jordan are who I deal the most regularly with. They are extremely responsive any hour of the day and excellent at what they do”.

James also works closely with other members of HFW’s jet’s and helicopters team, providing market-leading advice across jets, helicopters and general business aviation in financing, sale and purchase, leasing, regulation, insurance, contingency planning, emergency response and dispute resolution.

James is admitted to practice in England & Wales, Hong Kong, and the Republic of Ireland.
