Australia – Closing loopholes: Critical changes to the employment relationship

On 26 August 2024, two significant changes come into force for the employers of casual workers and independent contractors in Australia.  The legal characterisation of casual employment will change as will the rights of casual to covert to permanent employment.  At the same time the legal characterisation of who is an employee will also change make it more difficult and uncertain to distinguish between an employee and an independent contractor or consultant.
