About Ali
Ali is a Senior Associate in the Construction Group and Litigation Team in Melbourne. He specialises in contentious matters with a focus on issues relating to Corporations legislation, insolvency, construction and broader contractual disputes. His disputes experience includes advising clients and appearing in arbitrations, litigations and mediations. Ali has acted for large and small corporates, external administrators, financial services providers and high net worth individuals. Many of his cases have successfully set precedents in respect of Australian Corporations Law.
Ali also has specialist experience working in international arbitrations in the fields of commercial arbitration, investment arbitration and investor-state disputes. He has experience dealing in cases under the ICC, ICSID, UNICITRAL and RIA Rules. As an insolvency legal practitioner, he has worked on a range of complicated local and cross-border insolvency disputes and corporate restructuring matters. He has acted for liquidators, administrators, receivers, private companies and directors. The scope of his insolvency work has included DOCA proposals, Schemes of Arrangement, the Personal Property Securities Act (Australia), preference claims and adjudications of proofs of debt.
- Acting on behalf of a former executive of a non-governmental organisational amid claims of breaches of fiduciary and employment duties in Supreme Court of Victoria proceedings.
- Acting for claimant in a post M&A dispute concerning a €500 million share purchase agreement to purchase chemical manufacturing companies across Europe.
- Acting in County Court of Victoria proceedings for the recovery of damages flowing from a breach of contract relating to the supply of goods.
- Acting for the directors to successfully restructure company debts through a Deed of Company Arrangement. The successful restructure enabled the business to reduce close to $5,000,000 of unsecured debt.
