Sovereign immunity granted to the republic of South Africa in landmark decision by UK Supreme Court.
In a novel judgment handed down on 8 May 2024, the UK Supreme Court has unanimously allowed the Government of the Republic of South Africa’s appeal in respect of the salvage of 2,364 bars of silver from the “SS TILAWA” which was sunk by a Japanese submarine in 1942.
