More about Judith

Judith specialises in commodities and international trade, with a particular focus on oil, sugar and biofuels. She also has extensive experience in oil pollution. Before joining HFW she spent 25 years at a magic circle law firm in London.

She represents clients in trading disputes involving both physicals and futures, as well as drafting contract terms and trade association rules and providing regulatory and environmental liability advice. She regularly acts as legal adviser to arbitration tribunals appointed by both the raw and refined sugar associations. Judith has lectured on various aspects of oil and sugar trading, both in the UK and overseas. She has been recommended for several years by both Legal 500 and Chambers.

According to Chambers UK 2018: "Judith Prior is widely acknowledged for her expertise in sugar-trading matters. Clients say: "She is technically excellent as both an adviser to arbitration tribunals and in contract drafting. She is incredibly hard-working and diligent, and values her clients and their businesses." Another source says: "She is really good at giving commercial advice based on how markets work. She is a go-to for big commodities work."

Legal 500 UK 2017 says: "International trade and commodities partner Judith Prior advises clients on futures trades and contentious matters, and is regarded as a leading figure in the sugar market."
