About Neil

Neil specialises in complex cross-border litigation.  His focus is on fraud and insolvency cross-over work, his skills in which have been developed in both HFW’s London and Melbourne offices.  Neil acts for insolvency practitioners, creditors, debtors and companies in relation to high-value international insolvencies, civil fraud, breach of contract, asset tracing and breach of directors’ duties.  He has worked on a number of offshore trust matters in the Caribbean, the Isle of Man and the Channell Islands.    

In the recent 2024 Legal 500 directory, Neil is described as being “intelligent and resourceful” as well as a “real up and comer”.  He is noted for “displaying knowledge beyond his years of qualification.”

Neil is based in the London office.  In addition to being qualified to practice in England and Wales, Neil has also been admitted to the bar of the British Virgin Islands.

Recent work includes

  • The Serious Fraud Office & Anor vs. Litigation Capital Limited & Ors: acting for the liquidators of BVI and Manx companies in relation to their tracing claims to shares and assets across the globe. 
  • Glen Moar Properties Limited & Ors vs. Simon McNally & Anor: acting for liquidators of related companies in relation to their eight-figure claims for knowing receipt and breach of fiduciary duty. 
  • AerCap Ireland vs. AIG Europe and Others: featuring in The Lawyer’s ‘Top 20 Cases’ of 2024, Neil acts for war risk reinsurers in this multi-billion dollar dispute which relates to foreign aircraft stuck in Russia following the military invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
  • Acting for the trustees of the insolvent estate of former Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky.
