About Brendan

Brendan specialises in insurance-related litigation as well as non-contentious insurance and reinsurance matters.

Brendan has acted on a wide range of insurance and reinsurance matters for Australian-based and international clients including insurance events, in Australia and overseas, such as flooding, storm, earthquake, fire and explosion events, electricity supply issues and machinery break-downs as well as high value class action litigation, public and product liability and subrogation claims.

Prior to joining HFW in January 2009, Brendan practised for seven years in New Zealand for a Trans-Tasman law firm in the areas of professional indemnity, statutory liability and public and product liability insurance and general and commercial litigation. Brendan has also previously worked in London as part of an insurance and reinsurance dispute resolution team defending major international arbitration claims against a United States-based reinsurer.

Brendan has been recognised by Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2020 as a Next Generation Partner in Australia for Insurance. The publication states that “Brendan McCashin is adept at handling both contentious and non-contentious insurance work”.

Brendan is dual qualified in Australia and New Zealand.
