HFW in the British Virgin Islands
HFW’s British Virgin Islands office forms an integral part of the firm’s global disputes practice. The team advises on some of the most complex and high‑value BVI litigation, frequently involving cross‑border and multi‑jurisdictional elements, and works closely with colleagues across HFW’s international network. The BVI practice is known for its strength in commercial and corporate disputes, insolvency, fraud and asset tracing, and trust litigation, acting for a diverse international client base including corporates, financial institutions, funds and high‑net‑worth individuals.
The role
This role provides the opportunity to work closely with a highly experienced senior litigator at the forefront of complex, high‑value BVI disputes, gaining hands‑on experience across a diverse and intellectually challenging practice. The BVI office offers a collegiate, supportive working environment and exposure to top‑tier international litigation work.
We are seeking an ambitious and talented Associate to join our BVI litigation team. The successful candidate will work closely with the head of the BVI office, alongside another Associate, on a wide range of sophisticated, high‑value and often multi‑jurisdictional matters.
This role also offers the opportunity to develop a long‑term offshore litigation practice within a highly regarded team.
Key responsibilities
- Advising and acting on a broad spectrum of complex BVI litigation matters, including:
- Shareholder and corporate disputes
- Insolvency and restructuring matters
- Fraud, asset tracing and enforcement actions
- Trust and estates litigation
- Corporate and commercial disputes with cross-border elements;
- Drafting pleadings, affidavits, submissions and other court documents;
- Managing discrete aspects of litigation matters with appropriate supervision;
- Liaising with clients, counsel and advisers across multiple jurisdictions;
- Supporting business development initiatives and contributing to the continued growth of the BVI practice.
The person
We are looking for candidates with approximately 4 years’ post‑qualification experience who can demonstrate:
- Strong academic credentials;
- Solid experience in commercial litigation (offshore experience is advantageous but not essential);
- A high level of technical ability and attention to detail;
- Strong written and oral advocacy skills;
- Sound commercial judgement and client‑focused approach;
- A genuine interest in developing a long‑term offshore litigation career.

While preference may be given to candidates already based in the British Virgin Islands, we welcome applications from high‑calibre candidates looking to relocate offshore. A comprehensive relocation package is available for overseas hires.
