A new report has revealed HFW to be the most active law firm in the UK Commercial Court over the past two years.

HFW spent a total of 70 days litigating in the UK Commercial Court in 2016 and 2017, according to The Lawyer’s Court Rankings.

The next most active firm over that period, Allen & Overy, spent 66 days in the Court. Only one other law firm spent more than 50 days in the Court in 2016 and 2017.

HFW also ranks second for number of cases in the UK Commercial Court over the past two years, with 23 cases for clients including agribusiness and food company Bunge, UAE energy company Mena Energy and Malaysian financial institution CIMB Bank Berhad.

HFW partner and head of commercial litigation Noel Campbell: “We are extremely pleased to have our strength and reputation for litigation recognised by The Lawyer. Dispute resolution is at the very core of our business and we regularly litigate on behalf of our clients in courts around the world.”

The Commercial Court rankings are based on data from The Lawyer Litigation Tracker, a live database that records all judgments in English and Singaporean courts.

HFW also featured prominently in rankings for the number of cases for international clients, while disputes partners George Eddings, Brian Perrott and Dimitri Vassos were all ranked among the most active partners by number of cases.

A separate report by The Lawyer recently ranked HFW as the joint fifth most active law firm for litigating on behalf of FTSE 100 clients.

HFW has one of the largest and most active disputes practices in the market, covering litigation – including commercial litigation – international arbitration and alternative forms of dispute resolution. The firm has specialist disputes teams in each of its 18 offices worldwide and regularly handles high-value, complex, multi-party and multi-jurisdictional disputes, including fraud and asset recovery, insolvency, class actions, and enforcement actions.

HFW recently won an English High Court appeal to have a $70 million London arbitration award against one of the firm’s clients set aside: http://www.hfw.com/HFW-wins-arbitration-appeal-in-English-High-Court-March-2018.
