Global, sector-focussed law firm HFW has won Law Firm of the Year at the Middle East Insurance Industry Awards for the second consecutive year.
Middle East Insurance Review described HFW as an “industry stalwart” and said the award, which was judged by a panel of 19 industry leaders and independently audited by EY, recognised the “significant achievement and development” of the firm’s Middle East insurance practice over the past 12 months.
HFW continued to strengthen its leading Middle East insurance offering in 2019, launching dedicated insurance practices in Abu Dhabi and Kuwait – with the hire of cyber security expert Justin Whelan and consultant Sandra Ortiz, respectively. HFW also relocated Dubai insurance partner John Barlow to Riyadh in 2018 to provide on-the-ground support to clients in Saudi Arabia, and now has 14 specialist insurance lawyers throughout its four offices in the Middle East, providing a comprehensive range of dispute resolution, transactional and regulatory legal services to clients across the sector.
HFW was also recently named Law Firm of the Year at the MENA IR Insurance Awards 2019 for the third year in succession.

HFW has operated in the Middle East for more than 13 years and now has one of the largest and fastest-growing practices of any international law firm in the region, with 18 partners and more than 50 lawyers – including 31 Arabic speakers – across offices in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kuwait City and Riyadh. HFW has added eight new partners in the Middle East since April 2018, and entered into an association with a local practice in Saudi Arabia earlier this year.
