The Lawyer’s latest Litigation Tracker report has revealed HFW to be the most active law firm for arbitration-related litigation.

HFW acted on five arbitration-related cases in the first six months of 2018, including winning a $70 million arbitration appeal in the English High Court on behalf of Chinese steel company Jiangsu Shagang Group, while its total disputes caseload increased by more than 40 percent year-on-year.

An earlier report by The Lawyer named HFW as the most active law firm in the English Commercial Court over the past two years, having spent a total of 70 days litigating in the Court.

The next most active firm over that period, Allen & Overy, spent 66 days in the Court. Only one other law firm spent more than 50 days in the Court in 2016 and 2017.

HFW also ranks second for number of cases in the English Commercial Court over the past two years, with 23 cases for clients including agribusiness and food company Bunge, UAE energy company Mena Energy and Malaysian financial institution CIMB Bank Berhad.

HFW partner and head of commercial litigation Noel Campbell: “We are extremely pleased that our strength and reputation for litigation has once again been recognised by The Lawyer. Dispute resolution is at the very core of our business and we regularly litigate on behalf of our clients in courts around the world.”

The rankings are based on data from The Lawyer Litigation Tracker, a live database that records all judgments in English and Singaporean courts.

The Lawyer recently ranked HFW as the joint fifth most active law firm for litigating on behalf of FTSE 100 clients, while HFW also features prominently in rankings for the number of cases for international clients.

HFW has one of the largest and most active disputes practices in the market, covering litigation – including commercial litigation – international arbitration and alternative forms of dispute resolution. The firm has specialist disputes teams in each of its 19 offices worldwide and frequently handles high-value, complex, multi-party and multi-jurisdictional disputes, including fraud and asset recovery, insolvency, class actions, and enforcement actions.
