HFW continues to expand Australia dispute resolution and construction practices with senior hire in Sydney

Global, sector-focused law firm HFW has continued to expand its fast-growing Australia dispute resolution and construction practices with the hire of Jo Delaney in Sydney.

Jo has more than 20 years' experience of international arbitration in the construction, energy and infrastructure sectors, and joins HFW from Baker McKenzie.

This follows HFW's addition in October 2020 of a Sydney-based construction team led by senior partner Antony Riordan.

HFW's global construction team now has over 60 lawyers across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Carolyn Chudleigh, Global Head of Construction, HFW:

"I am very pleased to welcome Jo to HFW. As a highly rated arbitration practitioner globally, her extensive track record in international arbitration and commercial litigation across HFW's core sectors underpins our sustained growth in the construction, energy and infrastructure sectors. We look forward to exploring these tremendous synergies to the benefit of our clients."

Nick Longley, Head of Dispute Resolution, HFW Australia:

"Jo's arrival significantly strengthens our dispute resolution and arbitration offering, not just in Australia but across the Asia-Pacific region. Jo brings a wealth of experience and is highly regarded in the market."

Jo is an internationally-recognised disputes expert – ranked in Band 1 in legal directory Chambers – with significant experience in commercial, construction and investment arbitrations.

She has a particular focus on complex, cross-border disputes in the construction, energy and infrastructure sectors, which are key sectors for HFW globally.

Jo has conducted arbitrations under all major arbitration rules, including the ICC, LCIA, SIAC, AAA, UNCITRAL, PCA and ICSID Arbitration rules.

She is one of Australia's two members to the ICC Court of Arbitration, and is also a member of the ACICA Practice and Procedures Board, and the CIArb Practice and Standards Committee.

Jo Delaney, Partner, HFW:

"I am very excited to be joining HFW and being part of the firm’s growth in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. The firm’s specialist industry focus on energy, construction and infrastructure, key areas for the economic growth in Australia, combined with the extensive expertise and experience of its lawyers across its global footprint has been central to its success in Australia."

HFW has operated in Australia for more than 15 years, having been one of the first international law firms to open an office in the country, in 2006. The firm has offices in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney and advises clients on aviation, commodities, construction, real estate, employment, energy and resources, insurance, shipping, commercial litigation, corporate and finance.
