About Joel
Joel is a Partner in HFW’s Shipping team. A qualified mariner with more than 25 years of maritime industry and legal experience, he advises clients across the shipping, commodities and offshore energy sectors on contentious and non-contentious matters. Before entering legal practice, Joel served for over a decade in the Royal Australian Navy.
His practice encompasses wet and dry shipping, marine insurance and offshore energy, including litigation and arbitration, marine casualties and salvage, admiralty proceedings, charterparty and shipbuilding disputes, regulatory investigations and commercial advisory work.
Joel also advises extensively on commodities matters, including grain, minerals and metals trading. His work includes commodity sale and purchase agreements, arbitration proceedings and other complex commercial arrangements.
He acts for shipowners, charterers, P&I Clubs, hull underwriters, commodity traders, mining companies, offshore energy operators and marine service providers across Australia and internationally.
