About Ben

Ben’s practice is based in aviation and the provision of relevant advice to airlines, airports and engineering providers and MROs. Ben has provided both legal and commercial advice to aviation clients and their insurers / reinsurers arising from claims across various jurisdictions, with a focus on liability and quantum exposure, contractual issues and policy coverage disputes. Ben also has experience in handling major loss claims in the South East Asia region.

Ben is Australian qualified, however has been based in Singapore since 2019 where has developed an in-depth understanding of the SEA / Asian aviation market. Coupled with his background of insurance litigation work in Australia. Ben’s experience in large scale litigation includes Australian class action defence work, multi-party arbitration in Singapore and various litigated matters across South East Asia, Japan and China. 

Ben has extensive experience working with foreign based legal correspondents, insureds and third party experts as part of his aviation practice. Ben has also derived valuable in-house experience from secondment to Zurich, where he acted as a claims adjuster in the liability claims department.

Ben’s work includes:

  • Advising insurers on multi-party class action defence in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, Australia, arising from extensive bush fire damage in the Blue Mountains region.
  • Providing detailed coverage advice and claims response advice to QBE Insurance relating to accident and health policies, along with media management consideration for publicly sensitive individuals.
  • Providing claim management advice to insurers regarding multiple claims arising from a major loss event in the Federated States of Micronesia, including consideration of environmental impact and governmental response.
  • Providing claim management advice to insurers regarding an aircraft incident in Male, Maldives.
