About Brian

Having left Cargill as Head of Litigation, Brian returned to private practice and has practiced for many years.

Brian’s practice is all things litigation with a particular emphasis on commodities, derivatives and shipping. Brian’s varied cases have included scores of trade arbitrations in respect of the Red Bean Saga, all variety of injunctions from anti suit, freezing, disclosure, prohibiting harassment and environmental groups, numerous cases on the ISDA Master Agreement, more recently prevailing in the Supreme Court with a landmark case on interpretation, successfully defeating a high profile claim for US tortious interference, obtaining an order for specific performance against a background of commercial ransom, prosecuting penal notices and successfully enforcing a high value PRC judgment (argued to be contrary to public policy) in the English Court of Appeal.

Brian’s practice has taken him all over the world and he has been involved in and/or project managed cross border litigation in many jurisdictions from India through to Iran, the Middle East, the Far East, North America and Europe.

Whether it is in assisting or guiding those that face the collapse of Armada in Singapore or catching runaway contractual defaulters or pursuing or defending the most complex of cases, Brian’s pragmatic and principled approach always focussing upon the ultimate outcome has been applauded by clients. Chambers 2017 commented Brian is “very experienced, clever and has a quick mind”, he remains “a go to lawyer” for all things trading and derivatives. An earlier version commented, Brian is “devoted to client service….. he is one of the best people in Commodities…. he is a man of real integrity”.

Brian remains an active promoter of alternative dispute resolution and is a CMAC arbitrator.

Brian has taken a lead on the impact of Brexit and Covid-19 on international trade and commodities and was for example asked to comment on the Brexit Supreme Court decision on BBC Radio 2.

Brian Perrott has been named amongst a select few in the Commodities Legal 500 Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame highlights to clients the law firm partners who are at the pinnacle of their profession. These individuals have received constant praise by their clients for continued excellence.

With over 40 reported court cases (and numerous international and trade arbitrations), the Lawyer’s Litigation Tracker data shows that Brian is the most active litigator in the English Courts.
