HFW’s London office hosted a Work Experience Day for young adults in collaboration with Voice, one of the firm’s chosen charities.

Voice exists to enable children and young people to actively participate in shaping their own lives and to hold to account the services that are responsible for their care. The charity serves children and young people who are vulnerable to harm or exclusion from society, and who rely on the State or its agencies for their rights and wellbeing. It provides them with the key skills and support they need to build their own lives after the State ceases to assist them.

Over 30 young people and Voice representatives took part in the day, alongside a team of HFW volunteers, including fee earners and business services staff, headed by Matt Illingworth, Partner and Paul Wild, Head of Revenue.

During the course of the day, the HFW team conducted a variety of practical sessions, which were designed to provide the group with as much useful information as possible regarding the demands of working life. These included:

  • How to write a CV
  • Managing personal finance
  • A video conference meeting with HFW’s Dubai office
  • Career diversity in a law firm
  • Interview tips and techniques

Response to the experience has been very positive and the CV writing competition in particular, the two winners of which will each have the chance to enjoy a weeks work experience with the firm, was met with great enthusiasm.
