Global, sector-focused law firm HFW has continued to strengthen its leading BVI practice with the hire of senior corporate and finance expert Rob McIntyre.
Rob has more than 25 years’ experience as a BVI lawyer and has advised clients on a broad range of offshore matters including corporate, M&A, joint ventures, IPOs, banking, finance, securities, and investment funds.
He joins HFW’s London office as a consultant from offshore boutique FIN | LAW, having previously been Managing Partner of Maples and Calder in the BVI.
HFW has a long history of litigating in offshore jurisdictions and launched in the BVI in 2022 by acquiring a leading disputes business, led by senior partner Scott Cruickshank. The BVI litigation team advise clients on complex, high-value corporate and commercial litigation, insolvency and restructuring, and fraud and asset tracing.
Noel Campbell, Head of Commercial Disputes, APAC, and Global Co-Head of Fraud and Insolvency, HFW:
“Rob is one of the BVI’s most experienced corporate and finance lawyers, and his addition to our wider BVI practice is the ideal complement to our litigation offering – our specialist disputes and insolvency lawyers have been litigating before the BVI courts for more than 20 years.
“The BVI is increasingly important to clients across our sectors as a major global hub for cross-border transactions and litigation – particularly those based in Greater China and Brazil, which ties in with our offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai, and our cooperation arrangement with CAR in Brazil.”
Rob has significant experience advising on the structuring, operation, and regulation of BVI companies, partnerships and funds. He also advises on the listing of BVI companies, and on the use of BVI structures in the acquisition of high-end real estate and resort operations.
Rob is a former Chairman of the BVI Mutual Fund Practitioners Association, and sat on committees advising the BVI Government and the BVI Financial Services Commission on the development of legislation and regulation.
Rob McIntyre, Consultant:
“HFW is uniquely placed to support corporate and commercial clients with cross-border transactions in the BVI and throughout Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. I’m looking forward to working with the team to continue to grow its corporate and finance practice globally.”
This continues a period of significant international expansion at HFW. The firm has added 25 new partners since the beginning of FY22 – including six lateral hires since April 2023, spanning aviation, construction, insurance, and employment – and recently received approval from China’s Ministry of Justice to open an office in Shenzhen Qinahai to support its Greater Bay Area practice.
HFW’s Brazilian cooperation firm also recently merged to form Brazil’s leading aviation and insurance practice.
