HFW continues growth of Asia Pacific business with hire of seasoned disputes and regulatory partner Sumarsono (Jacky) Darsono in Hong Kong

Global, sector-focused law firm HFW has continued the rapid growth of its Asia Pacific business with the hire of seasoned commercial litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations partner Sumarsono (Jacky) Darsono in Hong Kong.

Jacky – who trained at HFW in Hong Kong – rejoined the firm from RPC on 13 March 2026.

HFW has now added 15 new Partners in Asia Pacific since the beginning of FY25, following internal promotions and other hires in Hong Kong, Singapore, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth.

Peter Murphy, Hong Kong Office Head, HFW: “I am delighted to welcome Jacky back to HFW. His multi-national practice is an excellent fit for our disputes team in Hong Kong, and aligns strongly with our strengths across commodities, insurance and shipping. Jacky’s long-standing relationships with Indonesian financial institutions, state‑owned enterprises, and corporates will enhance our cross‑border collaboration between Greater China and Singapore.

“HFW has been operating in Hong Kong for 48 years. Jacky’s arrival reinforces our long‑term commitment to Hong Kong and the wider Greater China market. We will continue to enhance and expand our client offering as we continue to grow our business in Asia Pacific.”

HFW first opened in Hong Kong in 1978 and is the firm’s second largest office globally.  Across its three offices in Greater China (Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen), the firm now has 21 Partners and more than 80 lawyers in total.

Jacky has extensive expertise advising clients in Indonesia and Greater China on complex commercial litigation and arbitration, professional negligence, and regulatory investigations.

His experience includes representing state-owned enterprises, major banks, private funds, corporations, insurers, and high-net-worth individuals in court proceedings, arbitration, and financial regulatory matters in Hong Kong and Singapore, acting under Hong Kong, Singapore, or English law.

Jacky also has expertise in shareholder disputes, fraud investigations, and cross-border asset recovery. His professional indemnity experience spans internal investigations, disciplinary proceedings and professional negligence claims against auditors, solicitors and other professionals.

Jacky Darsono, HFW Partner: “I am excited about rejoining HFW. The firm’s strong international offering and deep sector expertise make it an ideal platform to support both my Indonesian and Chinese clients, many of whom are engaged in cross-border trade and investment.

“Having trained at HFW, I have first-hand knowledge of the firm’s ability to combine deep technical expertise with commercial pragmatism, and I look forward to contributing to the continued growth of HFW’s disputes and professional indemnity practices in the Asia Pacific region.”
