HFW advised Exelon Generation Limited on its involvement in a project to deliver at scale the next generation of low cost, low carbon nuclear power technology within the United Kingdom.

Exelon Generation Limited, Rolls-Royce Group and BNF Resources will invest £195m over the next three years in the newly-established Rolls-Royce Small Modular Reactor business, with the UK Government providing grant funding of £210 million.

The UK Government has described the venture as “critical to strengthening energy security as we reduce Britain’s dependency on volatile fossil fuels”.

HFW was Exelon Generation Limited’s external legal advisor with respect to the transaction, including arrangements with Rolls-Royce, BNF and the UK Government. The firm’s team was led by Alex Kyriakoulis and also included Anthony Woolich, Catherine Emsellem-Rope, Laura MacLean, Peter Emery and Lucy Hanson.

Exelon Generation Limited is a subsidiary of Exelon Generation Company, LLC, America’s leading provider of zero-carbon nuclear energy, and Exelon Corporate, the Fortune 100 energy company.
