Raquel is a Senior Associate in the Insurance and Reinsurance Group in Melbourne and is admitted to practise in Australia and Brazil. She was first admitted to practice in Brazil in 2012 and was recently admitted to practice in Australia. She specialises in general commercial disputes and litigation, particularly insurance and reinsurance disputes, and has experience advising on insurance coverage and risk management.

Raquel has a particularly strong policyholder focus, with a track-record of achieving highly advantageous outcomes for her clients involved in coverage disputes. Having multi-jurisdictional experience, she brings a pragmatic and commercial approach to managing disputes, including cross-border disputes, and risks effectively for her clients.

Prior to joining the firm in 2018, Raquel worked as a lawyer in Brazil for almost 6 years. Raquel has acted for large corporations in the financial, construction, mining and food industries in a wide range of complex and multijurisdictional matters, including high profile cross-border liability insurance claims and high-value property damage claims.

Some of her experience includes:

• Acting in relation to high value public liability insurance claims arising out of a major environmental disaster in Brazil.
• Acting for an International Joint Venture in respect of high value claims under CAR and EAR policies for damage arising out of the construction of an LNG plant.
• Advising in relation to liability claims against manufacturer arising out of an aircraft accident in Sweden.
• Advising on policy response with respect to COVID-19 business interruption claims.
