HFW Boosts Global Sanctions And Regulatory Investigations Offering With London Partner Hire

Global, sector-focused law firm HFW has continued to strengthen its sanctions and regulatory investigations offering with the hire of partner David Savage in London.

David has more than a decade's experience advising clients on sanctions and white-collar crime, and joins HFW from Stewarts, where he was previously Head of Financial Crime. He was previously Group Senior Sanctions Officer at Kleinwort Hambros, a private bank owned by Société Générale.

Daniel Martin, Sanctions Partner, HFW:

"We have seen significant growth in our sanctions practice over the past 13 years, and we are very pleased to welcome David to the team. David is an outstanding sanctions lawyer, with a strong financial services background, and shares our ambition of building a market-leading sanctions practice globally."

David specialises in international sanctions, as well as internal and regulatory investigations into corporate and individual criminal and regulatory wrongdoing, and financial crime more generally.

He acts for clients across a wide range of sectors, including banks and other financial services organisations, private equity firms, commodities traders, insurers, and law firms and other professional services firms.

David advises clients on the prevention, identification, mitigation, and management of international sanctions exposure, and also successfully advises and defends in matters concerning investigations by the FCA, SFO, HMRC, NCA, CPS, and the US DoJ.

He is recognised as a leading lawyer in Chambers, The Legal 500, and Spears500, with clients describing him in legal directory testimonials as "a sanctions specialist who actually knows how sanctions work" and "my go-to financial crime expert in London".

David Savage, Partner, HFW:

"It is a pleasure to join Daniel and his stellar team. HFW has a unique blend of technical skills and experience, deep sector knowledge, and true global reach, and is one of a handful of firms that has been advising clients across multiple sectors on their sanctions exposure during the key geopolitical events of the past 15 years. I'm looking forward to working with colleagues in London and around the world to further service our clients’ diverse requirements."

This continues a period of sustained growth for HFW globally, with the firm adding 28 new partners since the beginning of FY23, including a major team hire in Australia and further laterals in Hong Kong, London, Paris, Riyadh, and Singapore.

HFW also recently obtained approval to open an office in Shenzhen to support its Greater Bay Area practice.
