Global sector-focused law firm HFW has advised Cosco Shipping Ports Limited (COSCO) on its acquisition of a 12.5% equity stake in Thai Laemchabang Terminal Co., Ltd. (TLT) and a 30% equity stake in Hutchison Laemchabang Terminal Limited (HLT) for an aggregate consideration of approximately US$110 million.
TLT and HLT are currently the largest terminals within Thailand’s Laem Chabang Port, which is the country’s largest port and its most important international container hub, handling around 80% of Thailand’s total throughput.
The transaction, which completed on 17 September 2025, marks a significant step in COSCO Shipping Ports’ continued expansion in Southeast Asia and the ongoing enhancement of its global terminal network.
With this acquisition, COSCO will be better positioned to deepen business cooperation with global shipping companies and partners in Thailand and the Southeast Asia region. It also enables the company to expand its logistics offerings, including extended terminal services, and provide customers with enhanced port logistics services.
The cross-practice transaction was led by Shipping partner Henry Fung and Corporate and Commercial partner Wing Cheung, with support from consultant Roger Wong and associate Johnnie Ho.
Henry Fung said: “COSCO is a long-standing and valued client of the firm, and we were pleased to work closely with COSCO’s Thai legal counsel throughout all phases of this significant transaction. We congratulate our client on the completion of its acquisition and look forward to further collaboration with the COSCO team as it continues its strategic expansion in Southeast Asia.”
