What we do Experience

• Advised on the development and financing of the US$1.45bn 1,210MW coal-fired independent power project in Iskenderun (Turkey). This transaction involved an innovative coal supply structure with coal sourced from the world market, and a very complex coal transshipment structure.

• Acting for the captive insurers of an international mining company in relation to claims brought by a joint venture insured in respect of severe weather events in January and February 2008 in Queensland, Australia. The claims relate to property damage, increased costs of working and business interruption at nine mine sites in Queensland which were severely impacted by unprecedented and extended rainfall, leading to the loss of approximately 8 million tonnes of thermal coking coal. The headline claim figure is in the region of US$1.2bn.

• Represented an international energy and mining company in the sale of a 30% interest in two subsidiaries to an Indian investor. The value of the transaction is US$1.3bn and is one of the largest resources transactions completed in South East Asia.

• Advising a major Chinese metals and mineral trading company on its proposed participation in a bauxite project in West Kalimantan, Indonesia.
