More about Denis

Denis specialises in transactional shipping law, acting on both commercial and yachting transactions. In particular, Denis has experience dealing with asset finance, vessel sale and purchase transactions, charter agreements, operational advice, corporate transactions for shipping clients, as well as other commercial contracts.

Denis trained with HFW, spending six months at HFW's Singapore office and three months on secondment to a major insurance broker. He then qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2018. Before HFW, Denis worked in the London insurance market. Initially as a broker and, during the latter four years, as an underwriter and head of marine insurance for an MGA.

Recent transactions acted/advised:

  • d'Amico Group (publicly listed shipping company) as borrower in a JOLCO transaction (Japanese sale and lease back with call option);
  • a German lender in a pre-delivery Sinosure-supported financing of vessels under construction in China for a publicly listed Danish borrower;
  • the restructuring of large helicopter lessor's debts following Chapter 11 filing;
  • a vessel sale pursuant to a seller's credit facility and refinancing of the original debt with a traditional lender, which remained in place after the sale and taking security from sellers and buyer of the asset.

Denis also speaks fluent Russian and German.

London

The London office is the firm's largest, with over 250 lawyers.

It offers the full range of services that HFW provides globally, with partners from the London office working closely with all the other HFW offices, as well as in many jurisdictions around the world. HFW moved to its current premises in September 2008, having previously been in nearby Lloyds Avenue for almost 100 years.
