More about Michael
Michael is a consultant specialising in contentious shipping, trade and marine insurance matters.
He has appeared several times in the Commercial Court and before tribunals under LMAA and LCIA rules.
He joined our Piraeus office in 2013 having had 6 years experience in contentious shipping and 6 years experience as a lawyer in the UK Government Legal Service where, among other things, he represented the United Kingdom in the final stages of the negotiations of the Rotterdam Rules, researched and wrote extensive parts of what became the Law Commission's current proposals for changes to the Marine Insurance Act 1906, advised government ministers on public international law and EU law matters of the day, and handled numerous precedent making cases of EU law for the UK.
His wide experience has been put to particular good use on cross-cutting issues such as sanctions, maritime fraud, cross-border insolvency, jurisdictional matters and EU law.
He has published in academic law journals and has a book chapter in one of the leading textbooks on the Rotterdam Rules.
Michael is qualified in England and Wales.
