HFW named Market-Leading Insurance Practice in Chambers Latin America 2019
Global, sector-focused law firm HFW has once again been recognised as a market-leading insurance practice in the 2019 edition of Chambers Latin America, a guide to the region's best lawyers and law firms.
HFW is ranked in Band 1 for insurance in Latin America – the highest possible ranking in Chambers.
HFW also has two partners listed in Band 1 for Latin America insurance work – more than any other law firm. Global insurance and reinsurance head Christopher Cardona and partner Jonathan Bruce are two of only three individual partners ranked in the top tier by Chambers.
Chambers described HFW as a "top-tier practice heavily involved in the Brazilian, Mexican and Peruvian insurance and reinsurance markets" and said the firm's "deep bench is well equipped to advice on high-value, sophisticated mandates"and said the firm's "deep bench is well equipped to advice on high-value, sophisticated mandates".
Clients and peers, who were contacted by Chambers to provide anonymous testimonials to support the rankings, described Jonathan Bruce as "outstanding" and "an excellent tactician and strategist in terms of driving litigation proceedings towards a successful conclusion".
Christopher Cardona was praised for his "brilliant and longstanding reputation", while Brazil practice head Jeremy Shebson was lauded for delivering "specialised advice to clients throughout Latin America" and for his particular expertise in aviation.
The Chambers rankings are based on a combination of research and client feedback, with assessments made on technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence and commitment.
HFW recently boosted its Latin America presence by hiring Brazil's leading aviation partner, Julio Costa, and entering into a cooperation arrangement with a newly established local firm, CAL, which was founded by the insurance team from Tauil & Chequer Advogados in cooperation with Mayer Brown.
