HFW Revealed As Most Active Commercial Litigation FIRM

The Lawyer’s latest Litigation Tracker has revealed HFW to be the most active law firm for commercial litigation in the English courts.

HFW is described by The Lawyer as “the standout firm in commercial litigation”, having acted on more cases in the first nine months of 2018 than any other law firm.

The report also names HFW as the most active firm in the English Commercial Court in Q3 2018, and the third most active law firm in the Court of Appeal.

The Lawyer’s research has previously been shown HFW to be the most active law firm in the English Commercial Court over 2016 and 2017, the most active law firm for arbitration-related litigation, and the fifth most active law firm litigating on behalf of FTSE 100 clients.

HFW partner and head of commercial litigation Noel Campbell: "We are extremely pleased that our strength and reputation for litigation has once again been recognised by The Lawyer. Dispute resolution is at the very core of our business and we frequently litigate on behalf of our clients in courts around the world."

HFW has helped clients achieve a number of major victories in the English courts in 2018.

In the English High Court, the firm successfully defended clients in a US$370 million fraud case and a precedent-setting derivatives case. HFW also won an English High Court appeal to have a US$70 million London arbitration award against one of the firm's clients set aside, and secured a rare Court of Appeal enforcement of a Chinese arbitral award.

HFW has one of the largest global disputes practices in the market, with 350 specialist disputes lawyers globally. Contentious work accounts for more than 65 percent of the firm’s total revenue.
