HFW Named Among World's Leading International Arbitration Firms

Global, sector-focused law firm HFW has once again been recognised as a leading arbitration firm in the latest edition of the GAR 100.

Global Arbitration Review (GAR), which publishes the annual report into the market's top arbitration practices, said that HFW has a "long history in international arbitration" and acts on cases "under all the major institutional rules".

GAR noted the firm's high case load across maritime, trade, commercial and investment treaty arbitration, with $6 billion of pending counsel work, and the global breadth of its practice, with expert partners in London, Paris, Geneva, Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Melbourne and Sydney.

HFW partner and head of international arbitration Damian Honey:"We are very pleased to once again have our strength in arbitration recognised by our inclusion in GAR 100. International arbitration is a core part of our global disputes offering, and this ranking reflects the great work of the team both in commercial arbitrations and treaty arbitrations."

HFW has one of the largest and most active disputes practices in the market, covering litigation – including commercial litigation – international arbitration and alternative forms of dispute resolution. The firm has specialist disputes teams in each of its offices worldwide, and regularly handles high-value, complex, multi-party and multi-jurisdictional disputes. Its expertise spans a wide range of sectors and industries, including aviation, commodities, construction, energy, insurance and shipping.

A recent report by The Lawyer revealed HFW to be the most active law firm in the UK Commercial Court over the past two years. HFW spent a total of 70 days litigating in the UK Commercial Court in 2016 and 2017, according to The Lawyer's Court Rankings. The next most active firm over that period, Allen & Overy, spent 66 days in the Court. Only one other law firm spent more than 50 days in the Court in 2016 and 2017.

A separate report by The Lawyer ranked HFW as the joint fifth most active law firm for litigating on behalf of FTSE 100 clients.
