HFW Makes First Appearance In US Supreme Court

Global, sector-focused law firm HFW has made its first appearance in the Supreme Court of the United States.

The firm was retained by the International Association of Drilling Contractors as amicus curiae in the matter of Dutra Group v. Christopher Batterton.

HFW's amicus brief is available here.

The issue before the court is whether punitive damages are available to seamen filing personal injury claims. (You can read an HFW briefing on this subject here.)

HFW's team was led by Houston partner Glenn Legge and also included lawyers from its Energy & Resources and Shipping practices.

HFW launched in the US in 2017 via a fully-integrated merger with Houston firm Legge, Farrow, Kimmitt, McGrath & Brown, and recently boosted its practice with the hire of oil & gas and energy transactional partner Derek J. Anchondo.

The firm now has nine partners and more than 20 lawyers in the US, providing specialist advice across a range of areas including energy, shipping, dispute resolution, corporate and commercial, insurance, construction, and regulation.
