HFW Grows international insurance and reinsurance capability with partner hire

Global, sector-focused law firm HFW has boosted its insurance and reinsurance practice with the recruitment of Carol-Ann Burton, who has re-joined the firm as a partner in London. Carol-Ann previously worked as a consultant to the firm in London and the Middle East.

Carol-Ann has broad experience in financial services regulation, transactions and insurance in private practice, at the UK regulator and as in house counsel. Her practice covers all aspects of financial services regulation, compliance and corporate governance, as well as complex insurance and reinsurance matters including life insurance, and transactional work including business transfers, complex risk transfers, restructuring and exit strategies.

Insurance is one of HFW's six core sectors globally, alongside aerospace, commodities, construction, energy and shipping. The firm has a specialist insurance team of 22 partners and 75 lawyers across its network of 19 international offices, providing a comprehensive range of advisory, dispute resolution, transactional and regulatory legal services to clients across the sector.

Carol-Ann Burton, Partner:
"I am really pleased to rejoin the HFW team and to have the opportunity to contribute to such a strong and successful practice. HFW has an impressive global client base and I look forward to working with them again."

Christopher Cardona, Head of Insurance and Reinsurance:
"We are delighted that Carol-Ann has rejoined our insurance transactions and regulation team in London. Her expertise, international experience and established track record builds on our existing global offering to clients."

Sam Wakerley, Partner, Dubai:
"Carol-Ann brings her broad expertise and regional experience to the middle east market, where we continue to develop and strengthen our insurance transactions and regulatory practice."

Carol-Ann's arrival continues a period of sustained international expansion at HFW.

The firm has now added 19 new partners so far in 2018, including nine internal promotions and ten lateral hires across Brussels, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, Rio de Janeiro and Singapore.

HFW also recently entered into a cooperation arrangement with Brazilian law firm CAL – its seventh international merger or association since January 2016.
