Summary

It's now over 18 years since FIDIC published the 1st editions of the Rainbow Suite. In that time, FIDIC 1999 has become the most widely used international standard form contract for

projects worldwide; industry practices have developed on their use; there is an ever-growing body of articles, reported cases and arbitration awards from around the world specifically on these contracts; and the 2nd editions were launched at the end of 2017. This seminar will reflect on these developments to explore, using practical examples, what we have learnt and likely future trends and approaches to contracting under the Rainbow Suite.

FIDIC: What have we learnt since 1999? Ben Mellors considers some of the lessons learnt over the last 19 years, what should be taken from the 2nd editions, and what the future might bring.

Amending a FIDIC contract to suit your project. Richard Booth considers how to tailor a FIDIC contract to suit the allocation of risk on your project, looking at some commonly amended clauses.

Changes and Variations under a FIDIC Contract: Michael Sergeant considers the ways in which variationsclauses operate under different FIDIC contracts and inparticular whether an instruction must be in a prescribed format.

FIDIC's dispute adjudication board provisions. Huw Wilkins considers some common issues arising from the FIDIC DAB provisions including the impact of not appointing a DAB, and the enforceability of DAB awards.
